MINERS HISTORY

The Moranbah MINERS Rugby League Club was formed in early 1973. Originally known as the Moranbah Nuggets, we have undergone many changes over the years. In 1974 the Club changed their name to the Moranbah Sharks, then in 1994, when the Club joined the RLMD (Rugby League Mackay & District) competition they became the Moranbah Miners; a name that plays tribute to the mining region that we hail from.

Darryl Bourke Oval is home to our 3 senior teams; A Grade Men, Reserve Grade Men & A Grade Women, along with the Junior Miners, who currently have over 300 registered players. Having a junior club at the grounds creates a grass roots base for Rugby League in our Community as our junior players come up through the age groups into the senior divisions.

Since the beginning, the Club has been an integral part of Moranbah, and they are proud to boast the fact that several former NRL greats got their start with the Club: Dennis SCOTT, Clinton SCHIFCOFSKE, Josh HANNAY & Travis NORTON just to name a few.

Snr Head Coach

Josh has a proud involvement in rugby league, having played representative rugby league for New Zealand before making the move to Australia in 1999.

He started his coaching career in 2006 for Logan Brothers before relocating to Townsville to coach for the Western Lions.

In 2023, Josh accepted the coaching roll for the Miners A Grade Women, a year later, in 2024, Josh went onto coach the Miners Reserve Grade Men to a grand final win. At the end of the 2024 season Josh accepted the roll of Head Coach and took on the coaching roll for the Miners A Grade Men.
